Introduction
“Commedia dell Monde” originated from the Italian Renaissance in the 16th century. without fixed written plots, the core of the theatrical genre was the performers, so every performer had to improvise to deliver the performance. It was the daily entertainment in the life of European people during 16th and 18th century. Zdenek Janda’s work represents respective scenes of “Commedia dell Monde” from his inner world. Each image is a collage of elements that connect to each other, conveying the meaning of the work in a symbolic manner. This approach enables Janda to create his unique narrative while producing a fantastic world that is both realistic and surrealistic.
Artists' Profile
Zdenek Janda
Janda’s creative inspiration began with portraying two stones. As he suspended them in midair for observation, he perceived a sense of attraction between the stones, and the tension seemed to make the heavy stones lighter somehow. Afterwards, the element of “floating stones” has been appearing in his works from time to time. Through the arrangement of objects, he creates microcosms in which objects seemingly exist in their own ways but influence each other at the same time. Janda’s work conveys a theatrical sense of resonance and empathy and forms an individual view of a distinctive world that he has characterized as “silence in the middle of noise.”
