Introduction

The Northern Renaissance was a European Renaissance movement that took place in the northern Alps. The humanism of the Italian Renaissance spread to the rest of Europe after 1497.
The Northern Renaissance can generally be subdivided into localized branches such as the German Renaissance, the French Renaissance, the English Renaissance, the Dutch Renaissance, and the Polish Renaissance.

This lecture will focus on the introduction of Netherlandish art in Northern Renaissance art, as well as the stylistic and pictorial interpretation of Netherlandish paintings, include:
Campin (Robert Campin, c. 1375 – 1444)
Jan van Eyck, (c. 1390 –1441)
Rogien van der Wyden (1399/1400~1464)
Bosch (Hieronymus Bosch, born Jheronimus van Aken, c. 1450 – 1516)

Pieter Bruegel (1525/30~1569) Netherlandish art, the word Netherlands comes from the Dutch word Nederlanden, meaning "lowland", a regional concept at the end of the Middle Ages, it is not only Refers to today's Netherlands, including Belgium, Luxembourg area. Netherlandish fine art is often used to refer to fine art from the early 15th century to the early days of the Dutch Revolution in the 1660s, and has a different meaning than Dutch art. After 1420, Dutch art developed and matured, reaching achievements not seen in other countries. A notable aspect of the development of Dutch painting in the early 16th century was the emergence of new genres of painting—genre painting and landscape painting. In the 15th century, the depiction of life scenes and landscapes had already occupied a considerable place in religious painting, but at this time they broke away from the attachment to religious painting and became an independent type of painting. In addition, a new genre emerged in the development of portraiture in the Netherlands in the 16th century—group portraiture.
